Hiatus hernia Barium swallow





A 63 years male with epigastic burning pain.


GE reflux in Tredlenburg position.
GE reflux with secondary crico-pharyngeal muscle spasm.

Esophageal perforation.

An elderly person accidentally ate a tablet along with its foil followed by severe chest pain.



Gastrograffin swallow study  was done-


There was a esopahegal tear with leak into the right pleural space. It was managed conservatively. After 1 month he developed right sided empyema. So the tear was sealed by a  plugging device. Gastrograffin swallow done after the procedure did not reveal any leak.
History of trauma-



Bennett Fracture

Should be fixed within one month or else it may undergo malunion after which it has to be managed conservatively. Arthritis of 1st carpo-metacarpal joint is a complication.
